For over twenty years this community has outgrown its space. Together we are building a masjid worthy of the generations who will pray in it long after us.

Our community has
outgrown its home.
Woodland Islamic Center began as a small community-led initiative and has served The Woodlands for over twenty years. In that time the community around us has transformed.
- Montgomery County now exceeds 680,000 residents and continues to grow rapidly
- Greater Houston is home to an estimated 120,000–200,000+ Muslims
- Families are steadily relocating from Greater Houston into our suburban communities
- Friday prayers regularly press against the limits of our current space
The need is not comfort. It is capacity — room to pray, to teach our children, and to gather as one community.
What we are building
A two-storey centre of modern Islamic architecture, designed to sit comfortably within The Woodlands.
Main Prayer Hall
3,328 sq ft with capacity for 333 worshippers, at the heart of the building.
Women's Prayer Space
A dedicated second-floor prayer area with overflow space and a visual connection to the main hall.
Classrooms & Offices
A 1,372 sq ft multipurpose hall, conference room and offices for weekend school and daily work.
The building, floor by floor
Level 1 — 8,912 sq ft, 574 occupants
Main prayer hall (3,328 sq ft), multipurpose hall (1,372 sq ft), conference room, two offices, a 1,331 sq ft foyer, restrooms and support spaces.
Level 2 — 5,469 sq ft, 229 occupants
Women’s prayer area, overflow prayer space, and circulation with a visual connection down to the main hall.

- 100 parking spaces including 6 ADA and 1 van-accessible
- Stormwater detention pond and full ADA compliance

Built in phases, so nothing stops
A phased approach lets the community keep praying while the building rises.
Phase 1 · Foundation & Utilities
$1.3–1.4 million · 5–6 months
Underground utilities and the foundation. This is what breaking ground means, and what we are raising for now.
Phase 2 · Structure & Shell
6–8 months
Walls and the structural shell — the point at which the building becomes visible from Sawdust Road.
Fit-Out & Completion
Interiors, finishes and landscaping, bringing the prayer halls, classrooms and offices into use.
Prayer services continue in the current masjid throughout construction. The phased approach is deliberate — it allows partial use of the new building as each stage completes, rather than waiting years for a single handover.

Where the project stands

- February 2026 — Board of Trustees presentation completed: full design, capacity and cost review.
- Current — Final plans submitted to Montgomery County. Awaiting approval.
- Next — Building fund opens; Phase 1 target is $1.3–1.4 million to break ground.
- Upcoming — County approval, then groundbreaking and start of Phase 1.

A masjid is sadaqah jāriyah — a charity that keeps giving. Every prayer prayed in it, and every child who learns to read Qur’an in it, continues to be written for those who helped build it.
